About me

I’m Julian Calleja, a data engineer based in Malta, currently leading the data platform rebuild at Elantil. I build systems that help people work with data and make decisions from it.

My work

At Elantil, I’m leading a data platform rebuild across casino, sports, and prediction markets. The platform uses Kafka, Apache Iceberg, AWS Glue, Athena, and dbt. Alongside the engineering work, I contribute to client demos, product launches, and go-to-market discussions.

Before that, I spent five years at Gaming Innovation Group, progressing from Data Engineer in Test to Senior Data Engineer. My work included a repeatable player-migration framework and Broker CRM, a shared pipeline for enriching and delivering player activity to multiple operator clients.

At SpinCity Solutions, I worked as a Data Architect and delivered analytical access to 6+ TB of historical data in under three months.

Alongside my main role, I worked part-time as the technical lead at Recasta, focusing on production readiness and demos for potential clients. We also explored vessel monitoring in the maritime industry, where the hardware requirements made the opportunity harder to pursue.

What I’m exploring

My involvement in client delivery and product launches has made me more interested in how technical work connects to product decisions and commercial outcomes.

I’m interested in GTM engineering and experimentation: using data to identify opportunities, test ideas, and measure what works. I’d like to apply my experience in pipelines, integrations, and automation to customer acquisition and revenue workflows.

Outside work

I’ve experimented with iGaming affiliate projects, content, and competitive research. Those projects gave me practical experience of acquisition and positioning alongside the infrastructure work I do professionally.

I’m also interested in creativity and the physical things we make: a zine for a friend, a family home video, or a personal uniform. The Log brings together these experiments and the things I notice while working on them.

I lead the Rabat Scout Group in Malta. Outside that, I enjoy reading, hiking, and camping.

Most of my professional experience is in iGaming. My work includes real-time pipelines, migrations, and analytical platforms.
